This was a known update requirement for v1.2.1 which will be available soon, and all system can update to this version from their own /admin/updates route.

Today we’re announcing two new Chaos MVC modules: the Short URL module and S (Short URL Redirect) Service.
Together, these modules provide a lightweight URL shortening and redirect service. You can submit a URL through Short URL Submission, while the S Service handles shortened-link redirects and usage tracking.
The two modules are designed to work hand in hand.

Chaos MVC 1.1.9 is now available.
This release completes a major architectural milestone for Chaos MVC, establishing a clear separation between the protected Core and installation-owned modules and themes.
Version 1.1.9 introduces the new /user architecture, installation-owned PHP themes, stronger module ownership boundaries, improved error handling, and significant hardening of the module update and package verification process.
The release was qualified through migration and operation of an existing Chaos MVC installation, including module administration, routing, theme operation, signed module updates, database migration, rollback behavior, and preservation of existing data.
With 1.1.9 complete, development now moves to Chaos MVC 1.1.10, focusing on the Core update lifecycle and theme updating.
Protect the core. Grow outward.

The foundation established in the earlier phases is now being extended into themes and existing installations.
Chaos MVC is implementing theme selection, allowing installation-owned themes to live within /user/themes/* and be selected without modifying the Core presentation layer.
At the same time, migration work is being planned and tested to determine how existing Chaos MVC installations can move safely from the older directory structure into the new ownership model.
The direction remains simple:
/app/ belongs to0 Core./user/ belongs to the installation and its users. This separation is what will eventually allow Core updates to replace Core-owned files without trampling themes, modules, data, or other installation-owned content. There is still work ahead, and migration deserves particular care — moving things is easy; moving them without breaking people's sites is the interesting part.
As always, we'll continue posting updates as each part of the separation is implemented and verified.
Leave the damn Core alone.
Protect the Core. Grow outward.

We have begun Round One of separating User and Core.
This is being done in accordance with our internal philosophy: “Leave the damn Core alone.”
The goal is simple: Core belongs to Chaos MVC; user-created content belongs to the user. When a Core update is applied, Core-owned files can be replaced without overwriting user-created content. Content stored within /user/* will remain outside the Core update boundary.
This separation will be implemented through several successive rounds as we move existing functionality into the new ownership model.
This also helps prevent end users from unintentionally making changes to Core-owned files that may conflict with the project's licensing and distribution requirements.
Please continue to watch for announcements and posts as this work progresses.
